Fully Biodegradable Plastic
Since 2020
Back in early 2018 Acme Seals started looking at ways to make our one-time Plastic Seals better for the environment. We looked at many different solutions and by end 2018 we had started producing our seals using a biodegradable additive from Bioshphere, making our seals as environmentally friendly (GREEN) as we could, the additive added to the plastic masterbatch allows the plastic to attract over 600 microbes and assist them in digesting the plastic, which are found in both anaerobic (i.e. landfill) and aerobic (i.e. composting) environments.
In 2019 the directorship of the group decided that the way forward was to not to continue just make a few different seals types using this material but wanted to make our full portfolio of seals using this material making us probably the first Plastic Seal Manufacturer to only supply our Plastic Seals using this biodegradable material, this was introduced across our portfolio from the 1st January 2020.
Now in 2023 we look that this was one of the best decisions that the company could have made in its 138 years. The company is always striving to keep up with the newest technologies and techniques of which we all can agree this is definitely one great method. This is the solution to the stigma of single use plastic products that making this a better method that recycling as most recycled plastics still end up in landfill, but our product will break down meaning that it will not be there like the other plastics in hundreds of years.
Our materials comply as following: –
· Plastic Additive comply with the ISO 14021:2016 “Environmental labels and declarations” under the definition of “Biodegradable”
Biodegrade in accordance with the following testing methods:
· ASTM D5511 and ISO DIS 15985″Anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials under high solids environments”
· ASTM D5526-12 “Test method for determining Anaerobic Biodegradation of plastic materials under accelerated landfill conditions”
· ASTM D5338 “Aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials”
· Plastic has conducted testing to show its product completely breaks down in accordance with the EPA Method 8015.
· Plastic is compliant with the EU Directive 94/62/EC Directive on “Packaging and Packaging Waste”.
We can also confirm that our plastic is 100% biodegradable and 100% recyclable making this have the best options to assist in helping our planet!
